Getting motivated!

As you may have read, I started the year thinking I was going to be really productive, that I was planning to get in shape and all the normal new year’s resolutions that we make.

I struggled at the beginning of the year to find the motivation, then for a solid month I was going strong, eating well, feeling good in myself – then I had my birthday…

Had too much cake, drank too much and now I’m back at square one.

So for anyone else that struggles to keep up the motivation here are some tips of how I have managed to get myself back in gear and on track to where I want to be.

- Set realistic goals: there is no point saying that by within four weeks you want to have a flat 6-pack stomach if you can’t spend hours and hours in the gym, eating healthily and drinking protein shakes like they are smarties. For me, because I know I’m going on holiday I just want to be happy with my body.

- Allow yourself to fall out of the cycle: by this I mean that you cannot expect that you can simply cut out something from your diet and then have no cravings for it whatsoever, so allow yourself those little indulgences sometimes and don’t be too hard on yourself when you do. Just know your limits.

- To-do lists: this generally helps with my motivation as I love the satisfaction of ticking off something when its completed and makes me feel as though I have done something productive during the day.

- Start your day off right: I read somewhere that to help your day you should start by making your bed because this way you have done at least one productive thing and then even if you’ve had a bad day you can come home to a nice made bed!

I think as well it is so important that you look after yourself and also to understand that your goals will be different to everyone else's. Don't compare yourself to others as this is only going to make it harder for you. I use others as inspiration don't get me wrong, but I know that I'm not comparing myself to those people because I don't have the time or money to spend hours in the gym like half of my Instagram feed does.
